EPHEMERAL (release March 1, 2019)
VEDETTES debuted in Lawrence, Kansas in the summer of 2015, playing nine shows in two months. Fifteen years earlier, Heather Lofflin (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Liz Weiler (bass, backing vocals) and Ben White (lead guitar, backing vocals) played in Honeybaby, which in retrospect, could be considered the training wheels for VEDETTES, with a more loose, "garage" sound than the sometimes-bluesy, more polished, intense rock sound of what they do today. In February 2019, the band found a co-conspirator in drummer Dave Melody, whose musical background and playing choices seemed to immediately fit and solidify the sound, not to mention that he easily understood the band's writing style, since he played in Truth Cell with White in the past.

"It's always difficult to reflectively describe one's own music," Lofflin said. "For me, I rely on Liz and Dave to hold down the groove and keep the key melodies in the mind's eye, while I listen for Ben, perhaps magically, to conjure some of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. Dave's a new member, but I can already hear how he relates to the music with a heavy hand and an incredible sense of time. I grew up listening to 60s-era rock singers and the blues, so no matter how aggressive I get at the mic, I'm always trying to sneak in a little Janice or Grace, with a side of Kristin Hersh."

The sound of this band could be described as aggressive, bluesy and heavy, melodic and emotional, with a little groove.
